This is one of the greatest spiritual books that I ever read. Not only am I learning what the gnostic teachings are about, I am seeing and living a transformation in my life as I continue reading. The author is such an enlightened man but writes in a way that makes it easily understood. You will develop a spiritual understanding like you have never heard before. Even if you do not have an open mind and are fixed in many religious beliefs you will most likely change you're mind probably after reading the introduction.. There is so much fodder in this book and lessons of enlightenment, I had to replace highlighters from so much use. I will also never look at the holy bible in the same way again, while still respecting much of its contents.Halfway into this book and it is shaking me to the core !!!! God be with you....

I have read several translations and commentaries on and of The Gospel of Thomas. When I read this commentary I couldn't put it down. It resonated with me as a commentary in the gnostic/mystical tradition of Jesus. This commentary points to pneumatic enlightment which, as I understand it, is the purpose of the pathway of gnosticism as a whole. This is not about literalistic Christianity. This book serves as a readable introduction to the initiation that leads us to our mystical journey with Christ. In my opinion, anyone who is consciously interested in their mystical journey of Christ Consciousness will enjoy and benifit from reading this profound work by Tau Malachi. While this jouney is both internal and personal as it unfolds it is shared with everyone we meet as we learn it. It can also be said that each one of us is already on this journey. So, this book then can be, again in my opinion, be an accelerant to the completion of our shared journey to our mystical union with Christ. Whether you have already read other commentaries on The Gospel of Thomas or have not read any, this book is well worth reading.

If I were banned to a deserted island and could only bring one book to read this would be the one. It's language is very gentle and comprehensible. You will meditate on what is shared in this book long after you close the cover and you will thirst for more as you gradually work through the scripture. For myself it is so powerful because "truth" is something that is powerful and in short demand on this plane. But for those seeking enlightment of a higher plane it must be found in truth. The words and thoughts shared by Tau Malachi set the mind in motion towards communion with God. It is obvious that Tau has done much soul searching, study and meditation because his words are inspirational & moving in a very good way.If anyone has been seeking to know God or seeking His truth the real and only truth. I bid you not to hesitate in purchasing and reading this book, it will change your life by knowing who you are and who our God truly is.Peace,Steve H.

I was raised as a Roman catholic. It does not surprise me today to learn that Jesus said a lot more than what was disclosed in the bible. Although the gospel of Thomas origins are in question, the message in his testimony resonates with truth and insight. After reading the passages it is understandable why an organization seeking control and power would omit his words. It is a little esoteric, but if you read it, then pray and seek understanding, your intuition will make sense of the teachings with time. I have read the passages a number of times over a few weeks. Each time I learn something new about myself and find a closer connection with my Creator. I do not agree with all the opinions of the author of the book, but some of the observations made are insightful. My 2 cents is that if you really are a Christian, then you owe it to yourself to learn all you can about Jesus. Listen to your heart for the truth. Do not be fearful of information! Fear does not equal Faith; the two emotions are mutually exclusive. You can not be fearful and faithful in the same moment.

This book may or may not augment one's devotions. Its thrust lies not in devotion but in hard core practice: this is a man who speaks from what he has grokked, not that about which he has opined. One is stunned by the Light.If you're serious about your search, grab this book. If you're looking to make your devotions prettier, surely there are a lot of little pamphlets out there that will do that job.Do you want pretty? Go elsewhere. Do you want real? Grab.Oh. Do you want canonical? Fuggadabboudit!

I wasn't too sure what to expect when I got this book, I knew I would have to contemplate every teachings one at a time. This is not a book to read all at once but one verse each day and integrate those teachings. The teachings are truly helpful and wonderful, it helps to see the big picture of things and to know that what you're feeling at times on the spiritual path is normal. The spiritual path can be a lonely one and this book is a friend showing up to say that everything is OK and will be. It's a divine intervention from God to guide you and to say don't quit you're almost there. Keep going and you will find what you're looking for....Wonderful book.

This is a very well done book.You get the whole Gospel of St. Thomas and for each verse Tau Malachi offers an interpretation that can serve as a spiritual guide to understanding the verse as well as a starting point for personal meditation or simply as an introduction to gnosticism.I think whomever feels like they are Christians but can't find where they belong to because they don't buy any of the standardized self proclaimed truths that creep within pretty much any christian denomination should give this book a chance.God Bless

I read a verse daily; it's inspiring my own writings. The transmission of love runs deep like an ocean; as though Jesus himself speaking into my heart. I left orthodox religion years ago but kept the divine messages of this Master teacher within, and now he springs forth through this beautifully written interpretation. A jewel, a pearl is found in the reading of this beautiful, profound and wise book.

I wasn’t sure if Kaur was going to be able to pierce my soul like she did with Milk & Honey but she did it with ease. A journey of self love and raw observations about the world around us.The only thing I did notice was if you are an advid reader like myself, you probably picked up a lot of similarity from other poets and works. I think we all strive for originality but sometimes it falls short.I will saw that Rupi Kaur is not for everyone, I know people who worships the ground she walks on and other who loathe her for her writing style.But that’s the thing about poetry, it doesn’t need to be perfect to be power.

This is the second collection of free verse (with some prose) poetry and line drawn art by Rupi Kaur, an ethnically Indian Canadian poet. Like the first collection, “Milk and Honey,” this collection has been well received critically. The strengths of the collection include some beautiful, evocative, and unique use of language; the author’s willingness to lay it all on the line in a bold and brave fashion; and the often clever--if simple, verging on crude—artwork. Its greatest weakness is frequent restatement of clichéd notions and truisms that don’t stand up well juxtaposed to the more personal and illuminating lines.The collection is divided into five parts, each of them reflecting a theme—while being tied together by the titular floral theme. “Wilting” is about breakups. This flows smoothly in tone into the second part, “Falling,” which is about sexual violence, depression, and the linkage between them. “Rooting” is about family and origins, and—in particular—the poet’s relationship with her mother. As an immigrant child who moved to Canada from Punjab while young, Kaur was more attuned to her new home than her parents—who were less at ease with their adopted homeland and more rooted to their ancestral home. The penultimate part, “Rising” is about love and relationships, and it takes the collection into brighter territory. “Blooming” is about feeling comfortable within one’s own skin, and—in particular—the female experience of it.As hinted, the overall organization of the collection seems purposeful and intriguing. The two melancholy parts at the beginning are blended into the last two (more optimistic) parts by way of a chapter on roots and family. This bridging seems to be done on purpose to make a statement.I enjoyed this collection, and would highly recommend it for poetry readers—particularly for those who enjoy free verse.

Book was inappropriate for minors

My 13 year old granddaughter asked for this book of 'poetry' for Christmas. After receiving the book and perusing it's contents I discovered that it contained some questionable content for a 13 year old. Be advised that their are graphic sketches and material that you may not be prepared to explain to your young reader.

I was excited to purchase both The Sun and Her Flowers and Milk and Honey as these were actually books recommended to my 14 year old daughter to read (so she put them in her Christmas list). However, when the books got here, I skimmed through. I personally do not feel this is appropriate for my 14 year old. Nowhere in the descriptions did it say anything about sexual content. From what I did read, the books seems like A great read for a more mature reader. Maybe 17. I just feel with the particular sexual content and some of the illustrations, I would not recommend for anyone under 17.

LOVE Rupi and LOVE this book! If you read her first book (Milk and Honey), it's still in Rupi's signature style, but she manages to cover similar topics from a different standpoint. It kind of feels as though her books are maturing with her, as this one handles the issues from Milk and Honey in a more mature, learned tone. Definitely recommend that ALL young women read this, if for no other reason than to see that we are all sharing very similar struggles in love and life in general.

This was my first hard copy of Rupi Kaur’s books. I read it in sections so I could allow time for the words and images to sink deeply into my soul. It evolves beautifully from wilting at the beginning until blooming at the end. Her writing is lyrical and realistic. Her love of self brings me a new appreciation for the process so many of us women experience after living in darkness.

I love Rupi's style of books. She is very honest and open in her poems which I think is important especially for young readers. I love this book and hope to reread it again soon. I recommend it to anyone looking for a positive and enlightening story made of poems.

Crucial Conversations & Crucial Confrontations are well-written, practical guides for resolving common workplace problems. HIGHLY RECOMMEND them both. It was with excitement then that I purchased Crucial Accountability - only to find that it is word for word the same book as Crucial Confrontations. Buy one or the other.

Love this book. It's a little bit of a long read though. This (in conjunction with Crucial Conversations, the predecessor to this book) saved my family life. I used to be a jerk but now I'm almost tolerable. These people taught me how to converse without interrogating, how to provide opinions without being bossy, and how to influence without being pushy. Seriously--the concepts here changed my life. This one is GREAT for managers because it teaches how to deal with co-workers and subordinates who don't follow through on commitments.

I had to read this for a class and I was dreading it, but I ended up reading almost all of it in one sitting. The authors not only offered good, practical, applicable information, but their writing was pretty good as well. I expected it to be dry and very text-book like, but really it was pretty engaging. It's been a few weeks since I read it and it has proved to be pretty helpful! It's not a magic fix-all for all your relationship problems or anything like that, but its a good tool and resource fro improving how you handle accountability issues in relationships in your personal and professional life.

I didn't catch that the authors had re-titled their existing book, "Crucial Confrontations".I expected something new, LOL.I wasn't offended though because the book is so good.It made an excellent gift.This is the best book I've read on accountability discussions.The "FeedBack Script", podcast by Manager Tools and an old book, "Analyzing Performance Problems", by Mager and Piper are excellent companions to this book. Also S.Covey Sr.'s, discussion about managing by agreement in the 7 Habits really cements one of the hardest things to do when working with people, holding, ONE ANOTHER accountable.God Bless

Definitely good for a number of management basics. Some of it is telling you what you already know (one would hope) mostly because its a lot of common sense and empathy. That said their are a few key takeaways that can be implemented on an individual basis that will make you a better manager and or a better employee.

I wish I had this book years ago! Kind of life changing when it comes to having good conversations in the midst of conflict of any kind. Would really recommend! I am reading this with some associates, and it’s really helping all of us already. I would say we are already good at handling conflicts, and this book is still adding extreme value.

Really loved the first couple chapters. Although it seemed too many at times having examples of both work and personal issues helped to frame the concepts well. For me it seemed this book lost a little horsepower after the first few chapters. The concept of accountability comes from an authoritarian view rather than one of mutual benefit. I wish a few more chapters could have been written on personal accountability as I think one needs to master this before attempting to hold others accountable.Good read overall. I would recommend.

Attack, that's right, this book stopped my heart. When will I learn that reading one book to get over another never works. Damn, some good things happened in this book, but, mostly it left me in turmoil. If I had nails, I swear they would be nubs and bleeding by now. The good? Jewel and her guys are closer and stronger together than ever. The bad? Everyone else is a weak a** betrayer, and put to tear them apart. Wow! So many betrayals and in so many ways. The adversity this crew has endured to fell a lesser person, or vampire. Lucky for our heroine and her dudes, they are so much stronger than their enemies give them credit for. More heads will roll, the world will change once again and it WILL be better, simply because they will it so. I cannot wait to see how this all plays out, but, could I request some more one on one time with the guys? And less time with potential oncoming death? No you say? Okay, I'll still be there in the end, I know you won't deny the happy ending this story deserves, at least I hope not! ; )

This book was just as good as the first. I loved the development of Jewel's relationship with Kingston, Austin, and Diego. The guys are the best. I already can't wait for the next book to see what will happen with Mitchell and Orlando.

Book 2 in the series is just as good as the first. I can't wait to see what happens to Jewel and her all her family next. I'm grabbing book 3 now!!

I devoured the book!!!! I can’t wait to see how Ramona handles life now...Great read and I am looking forward to the next book to come out.

Another great book that expands with jewels relationships with her vampires, tries to salvage a relationship with her sister and family, and deals with the whole blood debt thing. Pretty much nothing goes to plan except the strife makes the relationship with her vampires stronger.There was a lot of action in this book, but not in the bedroom variety (until later in the story). There was a lot of angst and I think Jewel spent at least 3/4 of the book crying. She is tough but feel like she needs to toughen up a bit more and also cut her losses. Looking forward to the next book.

Jewel is constantly being torn between her guys and her family. Ramona is crazy and what has happened to Brayla?. There are twists and turns and I cannot wait to find out why Jewel is so special. Mitchell wants her for than the guys and, Orlando wants her for more than the Blood Debt.

Ok two done. And it’s another great one. Keeps you interested and wanting more...so on to the next.. hopefully, they continue to be good.

Truth be told, I began reading Visions of Zion with some trepidation. I thought it might be too scholarly--that it was written for academics, policy makers and other researchers. While I am sure scholars about immigration and assimilation can learn much from Ms. MacLeod's well-researched and insightful narrative about the Rastafari and Ethiopia, Visions of Zion deserves a much larger audience. Ms. MacLeod tells a story that will be of interest to anyone interested in Rastafari, Reggae, Bob Marley, Jamaica or Ethiopia. Ms. MacLeod's narrative is enlivened by her affection for Jamaica. Rastafari and Ethiopia, as well as by the quality and scope of her research. She has the skill to use Bob Marley's lyrics to educate us about Rastafari, as well as the ability, and the generosity, to find just the right source to illuminate a particular observation or description. I was fully engaged by page 7 of her book when I read the following observation by Edward Chamberlin (a fellow scholar) about Rastafari, "What Rastafarians have done is to make up a story-and I say this in high tribute-that will bring that back home while they wait for reality to catch up with their imaginations." Ms. MacLeod reminds us how the bitter legacies of slavery and colonialism inspired Rastafari to imagine a new, purer identity and to have the courage to travel there. The passage was not easy. As Ms. MacLeod makes clear a pure imagination did not soften the challenges they have encountered in Ethiopia. While I have much to learn about immigration and assimilation, Ms. MacLeod enabled me to see Jamaica, Rastafari, Bob Marley and Ethiopia differently: with a greater appreciation and respect. The author, Erin C Macleod, in this book, presents candid and thought-provoking insights into the sentiments of the Ethiopian people, especially as it relates to the Rastafarians who began arriving in the country since the 1960s at the invitation of then monarchy.Although there are many books written on the Rastafarians of Jamaica, there are not many that have delved in such great depth into the question of repatriation to Ethiopia by the Rastafari adherents who regard the last Emperor of Ethiopia, His Imperial Majesty, Haile Selassie The First, as the Living God, and consequently regard themselves as his true sons and daughters. I was required to review one chapter of this book for a management class. When I finished my review, I continued to read. I was amazed to read where our country stands in treating minorities. We have been slow to change. This book gives insight of where we have been and recommend changes that we should make so companies can take advantage of the countries top employees.

This is of course a story about Pixar. But Pixar's story is the history of computer animation.When Toy Story 1 was released, I had some reservation about computer animation because I was sucha fan of Walt Disney's traditional, cell animation films. But I was so wrong.With computer, you can do much, much more in animation. This book answered some of the questionsI've had about how computerized animation films are made and who these people are at Pixar.Plus, if you are interested in Steve Jobs, Pixar's story can't be told without Jobs mentioned.Although Jobs definitely played a critical role in sustaining and growing the company, it is sometimes regrettablethat people tend to overemphasize his role while undermining those of others at Pixar. "The Pixar Touch" somewhatdemystifies that part.All in all, this is perfect for all animation fans.

A great look at the history of Pixar, stretching back from decades before its founding up through 2008. I was interested in reading more about Pixar after reading Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson and Becoming Steve Jobs. The information covered in this differs a little bit from the accounts given in the Steve Jobs biographies about dealings at Pixar, so I was glad to be able to read another perspective. This was just a great book.

I highly recommend this book for anyone that is interested in hearing about a true Cinderella story. Pixar was able to come back from rejections from Disney and eventually became a huge part of Disney films. It brings to our attention what it takes to make someone's dream come to life and how hard you have to work to get to where you want to be. Although Catmull was turned down for computer graphics he was offered a position to help with the Disney parks, but he in turn rejected Disney because he had his own goals that he wanted to reach. The book also talks about how Toy Story almost never came to life because it did not fall under what Disney believed and was part of the reason that they had planned to not finance the film. With a few adjustments to the films story, Disney did eventually finance the film and it turned out to be one of the best decisions either company could have ever make. The film not only brought in money for the two companies, but it also set up a partnership that has been very successful and will continue to be successful.

This book should be a must-read for any business student. It is a great summary of how the company Pixar struggled to life and then found great success. The book covers ground-breaking innovations in animation and software development. It's also a candid view of start-ups. The audio book has a wonderful narrator, but there is so much information that reading the hard copy is a better option.

I re-read this book after reading the more recently published book co-authored by Bill Capodaglio and Lynn Jackson, Innovate the Pixar Way: Business Lessons from the World's Most Creative Corporate Playground. (They also co-authored The Disney Way, Revised Edition: Harnessing the Management Secrets of Disney in Your Company.) Karen Paik is the author of another book, To Infinity and Beyond!: The Story of Pixar Animation Studios, that also provides a wealth of information about a unique organization and the brilliant people who have been centrally involved in it for more than 20 years.Others have their reasons for thinking so highly of The Pixar Touch. First, David A. Price's does a brilliant job of delineating the complicated chronological sequence that began with the hiring of Edwin Catmull (then at the New York Institute of Technology) to head the graphics group within the computer division at Lucasfilm (1979). Subsequently, Pixar Animation Studios (later shortened to Pixar) was purchased by Steve Jobs in 1986. After a highly successful IPO (11/29/1995), Years later, Jobs sold it to the Walt Disney Company for $7.4 billion (in an all-stock deal) in 2006. Price covers each of the company's transitions thoroughly without bogging down in details. With the predictable exception of Jobs, those who provided leadership at Pixar demonstrate remarkable composure, indeed style and grace, during difficult times and sincere appreciation when lavished with praise, awards, and wealth. (Jobs's primary - if not only - motive was and remains, the creation of "insanely great work.") Price's mini-biographies of the major figures probably provide the information that most people require.Second, I was especially intrigued by the fact that the key people provide what Price characterizes as "unlikely ingredients" for success when they joined Pixar. John Lasseter was hired by Disney immediately after college and had just been fired. Catmull had been turned down for a teaching position and "ended up in what he felt was a dead-end software development job" at Computer Graphics Lab. Alvy Ray Smith was employed by Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) "and then abruptly found himself out on the street." As for Jobs, he had been forced from the company he co-founded, was widely ridiculed, and considered a has-been. Price suggests that, despite and perhaps because of these and other serious setbacks, those who established and developed Pixar illustrate Joseph Schumpeter's observation that successful innovation "is a feat not of intellect, but of will."Finally, I admire Price's skills when explaining the artistic significance of each of the feature films that Pixar has produced from Toy Story (1996) until WALL-E (2009). He establishes a multi-dimensional context for each, identifying the challenges the production process faced and eventually overcame. With regard to the creative process, for example, the original attributes of the two central characters in Toy Story (Woody and Buzz Lightyear) underwent significant changes as did the initial thoughts about the relationship between them. Those involved in collaboration at Pixar have always followed John Lasseter's admonition that "quality is the best business plan" and embraced Ed Catmull's assertion that perfection is a minimum standard. Production of each of the other feature films also demonstrates the same commitment to artistic standards that few other films achieve.Leaders in any organization can read and re-read this book, then attempt to apply the business principles and core values that define what Pixar does and how it does it. Although the principles and values are sound, however, they are insufficient. What is also needed is the Pixar "touch" and there is no way that David Price or anyone else can explain how to develop it but you'll know it when you see it...in any of the Pixar films.
