I have to say I was giddy with excitement when I found out Kat Ross was continuing Nazafareen's and Darius' story. I was even more excited to learn at the end of this book that there will be 5 books in this series!!! Talk about best Christmas present this year! I loved the Fourth Element trilogy, but I have to say, I think I might end up liking the Fourth Talisman series even more. Why? Because the character's in this series are more real. They have already faced wars, death, loss, love, and some serious bad guys/ladies, but have come out on top (minus some memory loss and PTSD). Now they face new problems and new dangers, but can reflect upon their past mistakes and not repeat them. So here's my review of the first book:Pros:1) Plot line: Really enjoyed the new story line and the world-building - I always loved Ancient Greece and Greek mythology so I was pleased to see that tied in.2) Main Characters: I liked that Nazafareen is a strong and confident character who doesn't wallow in pity because of her missing hand or missing memories. She makes a decision and the goes forth and makes it happen. I also like her sarcasm and the way she describes things with a dry sense of humor.3) Side Characters: I like the new characters, like Gerda (crazy old lady with a mean sense of humor) and Javid (ambitious young merchant who was in the wrong place at the wrong time). Moreover, what makes Ross such a great writer is that she writes complex bad guys. Culach in the previous trilogy was a pretty bad guy, but in this book, he is painted in a different light and you actually start feeling bad for the guy. I also like the romance that blossomed between him and Mina.Cons:1) Lack of communication: I really didn't like that Darius and Nazafareen didn't communicate. I also didn't like that Darius is shutting out the past. I know he realizes this mistake, but it annoyed me that they are separated throughout this book because they didn't talk to each other.2) Lack of romance: I love relationships, but the only touch of romance in this book is between Culach and Mina, which is nice, but honestly, I want Darius and Nazafareen back together ASAP. I hope there is more in the future books.3) Victor is annoying and needs to be put in his place. And Delilah needs to take a chill pill and attempt smiling more. That's all I'm going to say about that...4) Cliffhanger ending. Everyone is so close, yet so far apart. Fortunately, the next book will be out in February, so we don't have to wait too long!Overall, I loved this installment and I look forward to many more. I would recommend these books for anyone who likes the books by Sarah Maas, Maria Snyder, Kelly St. Clare, Alex Lidell, April White, and Lindsay Buroker.

I was so looking forward to the continuation of Kat Ross'Â The Fourth Element trilogy, it was such a great story, I fell in love with those books and her characters and hearing about the upcoming book and it being released on my birthday of all days was so much better than Christmas morning when I was 8.Before I dive into my thoughts and feelings on this book, I want to say "Bravo!" to its author, Kat Ross, who managed to continue a story where it left of without picking up EXACTLY where it left off or boring me to death with too many details. Many stories have lost me for this exact reason. I'm a bit ADD & if the book can't get my attention and keep it from day 1, it doesn't tend to get a second chance. So here I am, in the darkness of Nocturne where, as far as I can tell, Nazafareen has been for a few months, and still has no memory of her life before she arrived there, except for what Darius tells her, which for reasons I don't fully understand yet, doesn't seem to be much. And then there is Culach and Mina. Culach is a wounded warrior from a rival clan, well, a rival to Darius' clam, is not the type of person you would think that I would want to get to know and yet that is exactly what I want to do.To me, that is the sign of a great author and a great story, when you want and need to know more about the story and the characters, even those you wouldn't think you'd be interested in. Mina, technically a hostage from Darius' clan, is the type of strong female I just love to read about. The type of woman who is comfortable enough with herself that she doesn't need approval from those around her, and she really doesn't need a man to save her, much like Nazafareen at times.I will say I am a little sad that some of the surviving characters from the original trilogy have no made an appearance. There were a couple of them I was looking forward to seeing again, like Tijah & Acheamenes, but with Kat's books, patience pays off. Maybe I will see them again soon, or maybe I'll have to wait for a whole other spin-off series. Either way, I will continue to read on while I wait almost impatiently for the stories to continue, and leave you with the suggestion that if you are not familiar with Kat's books, you should most definitely consider becoming acquainted with them.

As a fan of Kat Ross books I was not disappointed with Nocturne. With vivid descriptions that took me away into this world of perpetual night, Nocturne kept me turning the pages with intrigue, tension, and the hunt.If you enjoy dark fantasy with an epic feel, this is definitely the book for you! Can’t wait for the next in the series!

I'm hoping this first book was meant to introduce new characters end further familiarize us with other areas of this world not previously explored. It ends with everything and everyone hanging.

This series gets better and better. I don't know how much I would understand if I hadn't read the beginning books. The story is quite addictive!

Kat Ross is my first fantasy author to have read. She caught my attention and. Now. I can't get enough of her books. I have read them all and can't wait for the next one.

I liked the new approach to writing and I am glad old characters are at play here in all new circumstancesThe book is an easy read and quite active. Maybe few harsh turns here and there, but overall I am enjoying the reading

I enjoyed the story but felt it left you in the middle without a hint of what comes next.
