One of the better investments I've made as a small business owner doing freelance technical design work in the apparel industry. it isn't that this book necessarily has new information for me, but its a great reference when I'm doing spec work on a garment that I haven't done in a while. Its like that checks and balance system to help me ensure that I'm doing the very best job for my clients and haven't overlooked anything. Well organized material, clear format and illustrations.

i am an apparel design major and i bought this book for the information on how to properly create a specification manual. it was a great purchase and came in great time. it helps with understanding both the detail of laying out a proper spec manual and how to design a proper technical flat.

Sent to a granddaughter who is beginning to work on fashion design. I used it as a student at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) while at school. Has croquois for infants through adult both male and female for using to draw your designs.

A great reference for someone looking to learn more about mass market specifications, proper points of measure, and sizes. Also has sketched bodies to use.

Ordered this for a illustrator class, turns out I didn't need it.Anyhow, the information is good but layout style and pages seems 1960's old.

Good but not great. No one seems to be able to show one of each piece of flatware ever made in each pattern. But there was a lot of great material.

The book has magnificent silver shown. Beautiful photographs. A "must have" for silver and Tiffany lovers. One can only imagine having some of these pieces on their sideboard. Author Loring does a good job on all of his subjects.

The book is full of great images of masterworks in silver. For my part I love the smaller whimsical pieces best as opposed to the large "serious" works. Great book for those to love chasing and repousse.

It's just amazing what Tiffany has done in silver.Tiffany has been around for 175 years. During this time, it's been the "Cadillac of Jewelers" (at least for the 110 years that Cadillac has been around). Why? What makes one jeweler better than another?It isn't the metal (although Tiffany standardized "sterling" silver in the US at 925/1000 silver) just as da Vinci isn't the paint.It's the artistry.Art is seen in an editing process. The art bought today is really only some art and a lot of trash. It has been true throughout time. The art of the past we see in museum, in private collections, or in the case of architecture all around us is what's left after years, decades, and even centuries of editing out what was wrongly thought to be art.This book touts Tiffany with good reason. Much of the art and many of the artistic ideas that inspired these works is standing up well to time's test. Obviously, some is doing better than others,It also touts craftsmanship, without Tiffany's craftsmanship, these "works of art" would exist as drawings. Tiffany's silver is made in factories--some are very small factories--and most is available to anyone who is interested in buying it. The "one of a kind" pieces are a small part of what Tiffany produces.

This is overall a good book, although I did not find it toouseful for myself or my son (he is 12 and into moviemaking).Not useful for two major reasons:- mostly (if not exclusevely) oriented towards Mac hardwareand software (and higher end software),- is for more advanced users, since it discusses semi-pro andpro video equipment, and more than trivial editing tricksand effects.Nevertheless it is entertaining and educational to read andincludes a DVD ...

I have been using a camera for many years (... has my boating/flying clips), know how FireWire Macs work, can throw a decent amateur home video together, and now with my PowerMac G4 and Apple's movie making magic apps I am begining to expand my horizons. So, I was pleasantly surprised at how much useful information I got from this book. I think the title is a bit misleading. FireWire has nothing to do with film making, IMHO. After all, that is like saying that I can become a better writer if I have DSL at home instead of a dial-up connection. (I do have DSL, and believe me, it did not make me a better writer ;-) ).So, it is more appropriate to say that is is an excellent book for people planning to use FireWire ENABLED devices to get into the art, business or hobby of making movies. (Interesting that we still call it Film making when in fact most of the stuff we do on these technologies will never see a frame of film).The book simplifies many of the mysteries that novice moviemakers may face as they not only try to learn how to use things like Final Cut Pro (or iMovie/iDVD etc. from Apple {... is a great resource)) but also figuring out what and how FireWire can do for them. This book simplifies that part quite a bit. I do most of my moviemaking with a decent consumer FireWire equipped Panasonic DV-701 and found this book helpful in deciding what level of camera to buy, for example, and why some day I will want to buy a 3-CCD camera instead of the one this camera is based on. It helped me understand what kind of techniques I could use in making movies with my equipment. It helped me understand some of the issues I would face if I wanted to make movies that would play in non-US parts of the world that use a different standard, etc. In short, I found the book extremely useful, extremely easy to read, detailed enough to be useful, not so detailed as to be boring and left unread or put on a shelf and forgotten.If you are looking into making movies, ideally with a FireWire equipped set of tools, this is a great book, but even for people not ready to invest in all that FireWire equipment yet, the book will be a useful addition to their toolset.

If you use the Macintrash and has tons of money for high-end software, this may be for you. For 99% of the world, this book doesn't give you anything you can put to use. Avoid.

I have a deep love for Mr. Meltzer's "Ordinary People" series and this book is no exception. It is sweet and touching with a wonderful message, to be creative and kind, to work hard and help others. I would highly recommend this and any other book in this series.

Love, love, love Jim Henson and this book. I don't have kids, so I can't speak to how good it is for a particular age group, but it brought tears to my eyes. Sesame Street and The Muppet Show are the first TV shows I ever remember watching and my parents got HBO just so we could watch Fraggle Rock when it came out. I miss Jim Henson. He passed way too soon and I will treasure this little biography.

I love this book. Such a sweet story with adorable illustrations. Jim Henson was truly a special person and the book highlights that, without being too "simple" and I like that, because Henson himself said never to talk down to children/they can understand more than we know. It's a beautiful story and I'm glad I can share it with my children. I love the whole series, but Jim Henson holds a special place in my sentimental heart.

Ordinary People Change the World Series is the best. You can't go wrong. I love that Brad Meltzer's story telling is very captivating and the illustration by Christopher Eliopoulos is so cute. My 5 year old loves it. We read these books every night. Each book teaches that they were just ordinary people who had different struggles in life but they persevere by being courageous and by not giving up.

Been purchasing the whole series for a few months now. Super easy readings for kids, even for the 20-min trip between house and school. Interesting lives, and you can later discuss the story with the kids. I have found that most of them (stories) stick to their minds, even recalling full names and events a few weeks/months later.

This book is unique because in telling the story the young readers can easily identify Sesame Street characters and I think it is really cool that you can say see, "Elmo had to be created and there are people in this world who are known for being creative!" I like that this series takes a look at multiple sectors to produce a wide variety in this series.

Seriously! How fun? I bought it as a gift and the recipient has not stopped commenting on how much they love it. The illustration is wonderful. The narration is great. Good overall.

Wanted to share my love of Jim Henson with my day care children, but story is a little bit too long. Great for me to add to my Kermit collection.

Super series for little boys especially if they like baseball. My son loves these books. He is 8 and this is the first series he has really gotten into.

Great books for early readers, boys or girls especially if they have an interest in professional baseball. I enjoy reading it to my son's in kinder and 2nd grade. It holds their interest. My second grader, who does read on a third-grade level is also able to read the books for himself.

We bought this set of books for our 9yo son for Christmas. He has gotten very interested in reading chapter books, so I wanted to find a series that he could enjoy and follow. So far he has read 2 of the 4 books, and he loves them! It's a great mixture of baseball and mystery. He has already asked us to buy him other books in the series, which we definitely plan to do!

Great books for the sports lover. My 8 year old grandson really enjoys these. Can't wait for the next one.
