I got this book for hystorical reason, it is amazing how well writen were all the series of books on nuclear engineering by Glasstone, so when I saw the chance of getting this old issue I had to get it. Many advances did happen in the nuclear field, but is quite amusing to discover how good was this book, writen even at those early days of this technology.Just a lovely book on the subject.The book does not need any particular recomendation if you know the subject.
Very accessible book. As an undergraduate chemistry major, I ended up taking a masters level Nuclear Reactor Technology course while studying abroad in Norway. This was the only truly necessary text, and it was illuminating. It may be old, but the science is still valid.I could have used a bit more mathematics myself, but I was assured by my classmates that the parts I truly struggled with were due to not having taken enough math, not due to the book itself. Excellent text.
Where do I start? I read Glasstone's work since I became interested in nuclear engineering, and my college's library had two books by him. When I ran across this particular volume I bought it, $120 in those days. Sold it for roughly that in 1990. I've been looking for it ever since.This textbook is an excellent introduction to a seemingly difficult topic. Dr. Glasstone makes it seem simple. The latest edition is in two volumes, but this one is still the best, I think.

This is not a particularly good textbook for the purposes of learning the subject, but it is a great historical reference. It's a good book to have on your shelf, and you can't beat the price.Once they are gone, there gone.
Old standby - I have used and referred to this book most of my life, so I am glad to own it.
