Cute book but my little dino is still hitting . . . I'm going to need to get another book called Seriously, Little Dinos Don't Hit.
It has a good message but my son is an only child and there's only THREE people in this book that you shouldn't hit--sister, brother, grandma. So I have to change the words every time (cousin, friend, teacher) so my son doesn't get confused. It would be nice if the book was more inclusive to non family members
Very short and not very helpful with an only child. The book says don't hit your brother, sister and grandma. That's basically it. Says to help and hug instead. It would be better if it said don't hit your friends, family, pets etc. She doesn't have a brother or sister so it doesn't make sense to her.
I love these books and my son does too! He's 2 years old and we've been struggling with some occasional behavior issues like biting, hitting, kicking, and pushing when he's frustrated. These books have really helped us frame a good way to teach him that those are not acceptable ways to vent anger or frustration and they also teach alternatives like helping/hugging instead. I've seen a huge difference in his behavior since we added these books to our rotation. He has even started telling other toddlers "don't hit! it's not nice!" instead of hitting back... not every time but still AMAZING!
The message is for every child: Hitting is bad and hands should be used in positive ways. But the story didn't work for us because our kid has no brother or sister, and we don't see the grandmas often. When we bought the book, he was 2 years old and didn't seem to understand these characters. He understood that hitting is bad but it just lacked close personal association and familiality for us. He liked the part about baking a cake and that was pretty much it. There don't seem to be enough books for young children who are working on understanding how to communicate without physical means, perhaps because it is a short phase. This book was close but not quite a fit for us.
It's okay. My two-year old daughter wants me to read it to her a lot. The only think that I don't like about it is it says, "Don't hit your sister... don't hit your brother". My daughter is an only child so I really wish it didn't refer to "sister" or "brother". I substitute those words with other ones. Also, the first time I read it to her, she hit me immediately after! She had never hit me before..
Buyer beware, this book talks about no hitting brother, sister, and grandma, but nowhere does it talk about hitting mom and dad. I was very disappointed when I got it and started flipping through the entire story. I think it could have been expanded to include other family members and other people.
I absolutely love the entire series of Dino’s don’t. As my toddler experienced different stages of behavior that was unfavorable like hitting/biting, we’d read these books at bedtime and when she exhibited the behavior again I’d say “Dino’s don’t bite friends†and she’d repeat it back. It really helped address those behaviors and ultimately put an end to them without punishing her for “bad†behavior. Highly recommend these books as a tool to teach your child.
