Ray Atkeson became a legend in his lifetime, taking tens of thousand of spectacular outdoor photographs. He became especially well-known for his stunning black & white images of the ski and snow country in the Western states. He was named Photographer Laureate of Oregon in 1976. NOSTALGIA! This is a great book with both Warren Miller and Ray Atkeson at their best. It was especially interesting for me as the era of the book was just prior to my adventure into the wonderful sport of skiing. When I started gas had increased to .33 per gallon, and lift tickets were $4.00 at Timberline where I learned to ski with my good friend Don Beck..on the rope tow. Ironically in those early years I too worked at Montgomery Ward(Portland) and than became an ardent Sun Valley skier, and eventually migrating to Deer Valley(Park City) Utah. So you can see why this book is so dear to my heart it brings back a lot of memories when the sport was slower, when it still was an adventure, and friendships were deeper and yet due to the ski technology of today(skis, boots, grooming etc.) it still has me on the hill at 81! GLL.

Great, old-school photos and text. When men were men, women were women, and hills needed to be climbed before being skied. A great book

Ray Atkeson was the premier skiing photographer in the 30's - 50's. Through his beautiful photographs you'll enjoy seeing the early days of skiing in the Pacific Northwest, Utah, Colorado and California. It's remarkable not only for the photographs, but for the camera equipment Ray had to use to capture these scenes. See the ski areas, equipment and clothing from this early area. This is a terrific coffee table pictorial of a bygone skiing days.

First saw this book in the Denver, CO airport. What a great book. If you like skiing you will enjoy the photos in this book - particularly if you frequent any of the resorts featured in the photos (most of which are in the western US - WA, CO, UT, CA). Like most any ski related item associated with Warren Miller - awesome!

This is a super book with loads of great stories and wonderful photographs! A must own for any skiier.

Having come into the world of acting and modeling with zero background knowledge, I found this book to be EXTREMELY informative. It answered all my questions from A to Z. Aaron's book is very well organized and easy to follow. I flagged many pages and took even more notes. His guidance is practical but massively imperative specially if you are brand new to this market like me. I know I will go back to my flagged pages and notes in the future. I am glad I came upon this book!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading How to Become a Successful Actor and Model. It presented a straightforward and comprehensive guide to developing a modeling and/or acting career, whether you are new to the business or are all ready in the business. The best part of this book is the practical, step by step information given by Aaron who has had a successful career for 3 decades. He is sharing his wealth of experience...a lot of great information in this book!

This book is a waste of money, sorry I purchased it. The information it has , anyone could have “googled “ it for free. Please don’t waste your money.

Do you feel you could be a model/actor? If so, learning about the modeling and acting industry is a must! By purchasing this book, it gives you all the updated information you need in order to succeed. I've been modeling for quite some time now but acting has been a whole new experience for me. I attended Aarons workshops this past August and in just 3 weeks I noticed a difference; my self esteem rose and I felt more confident not only as an actress but as a woman. His classes helped me break out of my shell and help me understand the very basics of what is needed to get your business started. In this book, it gives you the proper tools as how to prepare an acting resume, composite sheet, and how to create an eye catching headshot! It also gives you tips on finding a good agent, how to get extra work, what to do when you get an audition, and it even gives you the basics on what you may need when it comes to makeup. This book has much more inside than what I stated and I'm currently on the last two chapters of reading through it. This is a very good resource to have and you can take it anywhere! I'm very pleased with this purchase; invest in yourself so others can invest in you!

I feel like I can apply these steps no matter what curve balls are thrown my way. For example, if your agent drops you or you don’t have one yet, just use these steps that Aaron teaches to keep your career moving. If you already have an agent, you can still use this method to pursue even more work. Aaron has recently started booking roles on major network television as well, so don’t assume this book is just for commercial models. Any actor can use it to build a strong foundation.

These are great books and should be reprinted. The recipes are clear and work. This was an amazing achievement that I feel has never been equaled. This particular volume has a good overall examination of the various cuisines that have formed around the Caribbean. French influences in Haiti, Guadaloupe, Martinique. Spanish in Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico. British in Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Leeward Islands. Overall the influence of West Africa.The book was well packed for shipping and as described. I would purchase again from this company.

I have a collection of these Time-Life Foods of the World cookbooks published in the 70's. You absolutely cannot go wrong with any of them, this one included. These are narrative cookbooks, which means that along with the scrumptious easy-to-duplicate recipes, comes a history of the country and the way they eat, a peek into daily family life, maps of the area, and amusing anecdotes from real people about the foods of the country and how they are eaten and prepared. Five stars is not enough.

This is two books. One is ABOUT Indian food. One is a recipe book.They're good books.Even though the description says "being two books, one of them a recipe book" you do not pay one price and get two books.The books are sold separately. One, called hard cover, is the description book. One, soft cover, is the recipe book.Buy one or the other or pay for both book and get both.

This book is a step back into the world of the late 1960's. The photography is wonderful and the description of Russian regional cuisine is enlightening. The writer/editors were prescient in titling the book Russian cuisine instead of Soviet cuisine since the Soviet Union is no more. But the regional dishes and recipes given are part of today's Russian cooking even though many of the countries mentioned (Ukraine, Georgia, Latvia, Estonia, Uzbekistan, etc.) are now independent nations. In short, we have a cuisine of a cultural region and not of a political state. An interesting historical development.The recipes are good, very clearly written, and with excellent illustrative photography. For the most part the recipes are authentic (although one wonders how one can have a Ukrainian meat borsch without pork)and can be created by a resonably competent cook.Book is worth the historical photography, if for no other reason.

Peter Fiebleman is an amazing writer, a gourmand, and man whose life is full of adventures. This book brings alive the life style of New Orleans and the rich food of that region. To read him is to breathe the air and live how life was in New Orleans. Fiebleman is also the author for the book in the same series on food of Spain and Portugal. It is equally amazing. Get it too. Bravo to time life for this series of books. They are gems. They should be reprinted.

First class cook. The korma recipe rivals even Madhur Jaffrey’s. And the mixed bean salad (Rajma-Chana) is lovely, too.

A lot of the recipes in the book refer to a separate spiral-bound recipe booklet. This is part of the original product, but resellers don't necessarily agree with that, so they may or may not send you two books as part of this product.Having said that, the reason I got it is that I happened to sample a bunch of dishes from this book which were ostensibly made by following the recipes to the letter, and they turned out really well. Even discounting the skill of the cook, I thought it was worth getting. To test out the theory, I prepared one of the dishes right off the bat (a simple one though), and it came out pretty well, with nicely balanced flavor.It is good for principles of Indian cuisine. There's a section on Pakistani cuisine as well. It could be also be of historical interest for South Asians, given how the author traces the history of various ethnicities and their cuisine in India.

Wife is Russian and had deep nostalgia seeing this...book was in great condition )))
